How to Tell if You Have Combination Skin and Why Superfruit and Peptides Can Save the Day
Combination skin, characterized by an oily T-zone (forehead, nose, and chin) and dry cheeks, can be challenging to manage. The typical over-the-counter, mass-produced skin care products either leave the T-zone too oily or leave the rest of the face too dry. Even if they boast of effective ingredients; it’s likely there’s not enough of those ingredients, and fillers are present.
The good news is that the right combination of small-batch professional-grade products (like Skintessence) can work wonders!
How to tell if you have oily vs. combination skin
“Oily skin” implies that your whole face including your cheeks have a slight shine, slick feeling, and a tendency to create acne all over, including the cheeks. Combination skin is oily only in the "T-zone" area (the forehead, nose and chin). The cheeks will feel dryer than the T-zone and have much less acne (or none at all). Another telltale sign is larger pores or blackheads in the T-zone only.
If you’re not sure, closely review your face for a few days to see if your skin look and feels different in the T-zone.
How to treat each skin type
For skin that tends to be oily all over, we recommend all 6 Steps of skin care, twice a day, using everything in the Influencer Collection. Here’s what comes in the Full Face Set:
Clarifying Cleanser (Step 1)
Essential Exfoliation Mask (Step 2)
Essential Toner (Step 3)
Essential-C Eye Serum (Step 4)
Essential Retinol Serum (Step 5)
Blemish Rescue Moisturizer (Step 6)
For combination skin, we recommend the exact same regimen, except use the Balancing Superfruit Moisturizer as Step 6. (Because all of our products are professional-grade, you can still use Blemish Rescue Moisturizer as well! But if you had to choose only one, prioritize Balancing Superfruit Moisturizer for combination skin.)
What are superfruits?
Superfruits are fruits that are packed with antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. They're known for their anti-inflammatory and anti-aging properties. The super-effective superfruit extracts we use in our products include acai berries, noni fruit, goji berries, pomegranate, tangerine, grapefruit, orange, raspberry, apple, and more.
What are peptides?
Peptides are short chains of amino acids that are the building blocks of proteins. They're known for their ability to stimulate collagen production, which helps to firm and plump the skin. Learn more about peptides.
Superfruit + Peptides Together
One of the benefits of superfruit and peptides together is that they help to balance and calm the skin's microflora — bacteria and other microorganisms that live on the skin's surface. When the microflora is out of balance, it can lead to skin problems like acne, rosacea, and eczema. Superfruit and peptides work together to restore the balance of the skin's microflora, which can help to prevent these skin issues. It’s gentle and effective on combination skin, which is often sensitive.
Note that not all superfruit and peptide products are created equal. Look for products that are specifically formulated for combination skin, contain a high concentration of these ingredients, and are small-batch. Our Balancing Superfruit Moisturizer contains superfruits, peptides, probiotic, and other amazing ingredients that are very effective for all skin types, but particularly for combination skin. (And it smells amazing, too!)
By incorporating these superior ingredients into your skincare routine, you can help to prevent or repair common combination skin issues like acne and rosacea, while also enjoying the hydrating and anti-aging benefits of these natural ingredients.
